A herptile vivarium (plural: vivariums or vivaria)
is an enclosed area for keeping and raising these animals and
plants for observation or research. A portion of the natural
ecosystem and habitat for a particular species is simulated on a
smaller scale by also controlling the environmental conditions.
A vivarium may be small enough to sit on a desk or table, such
as a terrarium or an aquarium, or may be a large outdoors
structure.
